Sebastian Scholz (*1989 in Vienna, Austria) studied Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and Architecture at the Technical University Vienna. His works are shown internationally. Scholz's sculptural and installation practice dislodges everyday objects from their functional contexts, transposing them into expanded fields of meaning. Utilitarian forms — furniture components, containers, display structures — are divested of their purpose and made to articulate a different register: one of scale, implication, and open-ended reference. Through radical shifts in proportion, the combination of industrial and handcrafted processes, and the deployment of stage-like arrangements, his objects propose actions without ever fully committing to them. Fairytales, speculative cosmologies, and the child's indifferent encounter with things constitute the epistemological ground of his practice – a space in which the quotidian tips into the cosmiuc, and objects cease to comply.
